Shedfest

All wineries have sheds; usually housing crushers, barrels, tractors and other equipment vitally important to the production of fine wines. Every year, on the second weekend in October, fifteen wineries along the Warburton Highway open their sheds for two days of fabulous food, fine wine, live music and entertainment.

If your type of festival is one where you can take it easy, taste local produce, experience the charm of small vineyards, be captivated by stunning views, chat to the makers, tap your toes to some fine tunes, play pétanque and watch the kids have fun - all while sipping delightful wines... then Shedfest Wine Festival is for you.

Popular annual Farm Machinery Field days with information, demonstrations and displays of the latest in agricultural and horticultural equipment and products, advice and associated general information. Having been held for over 30 years, and being located in the heart of the popular Yarra Valley region, suppliers are able to make direct contact to the many and varied primary producers of the surrounding area. Operated by a non-profit Committee of management, these field days directly benefit the local community groups and Country Fire Authority Brigades. Now also incorporates the Wandin-Silvan Ute Muster.
Jayco Herald Sun Tour at Tarrawarra Estate

On Friday 17 October TarraWarra Estate will host the Individual Time Trial during the 2008 Jayco Herald Sun Tour. Founded in 1952, this teams-based cycling event attracts some of the best cyclists in the world, and this year riders will cycle through Gippsland and the Southern Alps on their way to the Yarra Valley for Stage 5. The time trial will start and finish at TarraWarra Estate with riders competing over a 16.2 km circuit through some of the Yarra Valley’s most scenic areas.

The event commences at midday with riders heading out on the time trial from 1 pm so we invite all cycling enthusiasts to get out to TarraWarra Estate early for this great event. There will be great activities for adults and also for the kids:
* wine tastings
* gourmet food and great coffee
* TarraWarra Museum of Art
* ‘Go for your life’ activities for the kids
* chat to the support teams and riders in the tour village
* check out the latest bikes at the bike expo plus SRAM, Endura and Champion Systems

Bring your picnic rug and watch the action from the beautiful grounds of TarraWarra Estate. Gourmet hampers from Handmade in Healesville will be available, choose from Antipasto, Ploughman’s, Charcuterie or Cheese. On Saturday 18th October TarraWarra Estate’s WineBar will host an intimate dinner and concert by the Flinders Quartet. Our new Spring Menu has just been released and will be available a la carte from 6:30pm. T he Flinders Quartet is one of Australia’s up and coming String Quartets. “…you can always rely on the Flinders players to give you a considered, informed interpretation.” Clive O’Connell The Age.

Yarra Valley Orchid Society's Annual Show

The Yarra Valley Orchid Society's 24th annual show will have wonderful displays of many species of orchids, mini display boards, potting demonstrations, plant sales and a raffle. Devonshire teas and light lunches will also be available. The Orchid Society's members will also be on hand with advice on orchid growing for both beginners and experts.

Toolangi Community Festival  
Date: 18-19 October

Over the weekend of the 18th and 19th October, 2008, the Toolangi Community will be hosting a Festival. This Festival coincides with the 100 years since the famous author and poet C J Dennis came to reside in Toolangi. The following events and activities are planned for the weekend: Rhododendron Ball on Saturday evening; open gardens on both days; billycart time trial challenge on Sunday morning; jazz in the Vines at Giverny Estate both days; art show at the Forest Discovery Centre both days; poetry reading and competition at the Singing Gardens both days; Colonial Games for children and kid's story reading at the Toolangi PS on both days; CJ Dennis and History of Toolangi films at the Toolangi Discovery Centre both days; food, drink and music at the Tavern; quilt exhibition at Forest Discovery Centre; David Williams Crystalline Ceramics open both days.

Get ready to party in the vines at Rochford when the Cuban Jazz Festival returns this spring. Each year the event gets bigger and better and there are three entertainment areas that you can experience the vibe. On the main stage be entertained by 12 piece outfit Tropical Dreams and Carlito’s Way (8 piece) while Melbourne Salsa provide dance lessons between performances. Radio personality Stick Mareebo returns to DJ & MC; adding his own unique flavour to the day.

In the Vineyard Style Lab the vibe is more down tempo and fun; be entertained by a 5-piece jazz band and treat yourself to a fashion make-over or massage. Feel the funky beats in the vineyard dance marquee with DJ and live cross over including sax and vocalist.

Cuban Jazz at Rochford Wines will get underway at 11.00 AM and wrap up at 5.30 PM. Permitted on-site will be sealed bottled water, food, rugs, and chairs.
