Discover the Melba Highway this weekend

Itineraries

Weekend drives are wonderful ways to find new places. The Melba Highway, while still part of the Yarra Valley, offers a unique drive opportunity and holds many gems to be discovered.

As you leave the outskirts of Lilydale and head towards the Yarra Glen township – the heart of the Melba area – you will pass through plentiful pastures, winding vineyards and beyond to tall tree forest landscapes. Yarra Glen has a lovely country shopping feel, with a fabulous pub and eateries on the main street.

If you’re taking a family drive, you’ll impress the kids with your discovery of the best playpark they’ve possible ever seen, and find plenty of family friendly meal options.

Extra brownie points are earnt immediately if you also visit everyone’s favourite place – the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery.

Local produce is the hero at Heartswood for a memory making brunch or dinner. Make a note of all the fabulous restaurants dotted along the highway that you’re going to come back for – you’ll be surprised how many you have heard of – now is the time to explore.

And no trip to the Yarra Valley is complete without a winery experience. The Melba Highway and surrounds has plenty to offer and a visit to Yarrawood Estate and De Bortoli is a must.
