The Acheron Way Drive (St Fillans, Narbethong, to Warburton)

Itineraries

Wonderful views can be found all along the Acheron Way, on a road trip that cuts through dense forest and gently follows the route of the Acheron River.

Look for the peaks of Mt Victoria, Ben Cairn and Mt Donna Buang, where this road concludes at the Rainforest Gallery.

To access the Acheron Way turn off the Maroondah Highway (3km before Narbethong) onto C507. The turn is well signed.

In winter, some sections can be snow covered. It is advisable to check weather conditions, especially in summer if there are bushfire notifications.

The Acheron Way is a true ‘getting away from it all drive’ with several pull over areas to stop and stretch the legs and mind. This is natural habitat for many forms of native wildlife, so keep an eye out at both ground level and in the forest canopy for animals and birds.

This road can also be travelled in reverse, starting at the Warburton end, simply access the Acheron Way via Mt Donna Buang Rd.

The world famous cycling event Giro Della Donna is held on the Acheron Way every November.
