Yarra Junction is a scenic beauty offering access to the banks of the Yarra River. The mountain ranges and hills that flank the Warburton - Lilydale Rail Trail in this region provide a family-friendly recreation reserve where afternoons can be spent picnicking, cycling the rail or paddle in the water and enjoying a barbecue.
The Aquatic Centre has an indoor pool and gymnasium open year-round (except Christmas Day) and tennis courts available for hire. Next to the Centre, you’ll also find a skate park and cycling area ideal for families. Right next door the skate park and bike area are another popular choice for families.
History buffs should wander through The Upper Yarra Museum, open from Wednesday to Sunday and the third Saturday of the month. Once the Old Railway Station, it sits on the Rail Trail and visitors can enjoy the restored Heritage Station. Built in 1888 at Lilydale and relocated to Yarra Junction in (circa)1915, it’s worth a visit if only to watch the blacksmith working on weekends.
On the second and fourth Sunday of the month, the Upper Yarra Community Market is the best place to browse local wares and artisans and on the third Saturday of the month you’ll find local market vendors at the Little Yarra Market at the local Steiner School.
