Marysville & surrounds

Melbourne's closest alpine region is situated in the foothills of the Yarra Valley, known as the beautiful township of Marysville.

The 90min drive from Melbourne takes visitors on a journey from Healesville through the majestic Black Spur. Marysville is the ideal location for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

A year-round calendar of activities and events ensures there is something for just about everyone. Get into the snow play at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort, admire the sheer cliffs of Steavenson Falls or discover the scenic walks and hikes that surround the region. Along the main street of Marysville are a handful of niche cafes, shops and fantastic accommodation options including the outstanding Peppers Marysville Hotel. There is also a Marysville Community Market every second and fourth Sunday of the month, 9am to 1pm.

For history buffs, Marysville was originally established as a stopping point on the Yarra Track, the horse-drawn route to the Jordan goldfields in the Great Divide. After some time, cutters realised the potential of the region and so large timber mills were built, logging the giant trees. By 1920s, Marysville had become a tourist destination offering walking tracks to Steavenson Falls as well as scenic views of fern loaded gullies and tall trees. Many guest houses became established at this time and Marysville became popular as a honeymoon destination. During 2009, the town was almost wiped out in the devastating Black Saturday bushfires but quickly rebuilt to what it is today.
