The locally owned cafe, effe. focuses on a warm, inviting space for customers to take some time for themselves.
Situated in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Tecoma is a small strip with a rich history, the venue itself has the original floorboards from 100 years ago when the premises opened as the first theatre in the Hills. For those faring to Puffing Billy it provides a less busy alternative rest-stop on the way to Belgrave, and in warmer months a deck with seating to soak in the views.
All the food, from gelato and cookies to soup and focaccia are made in house by owner Michael and leverage local and donated produce to create a seasonal and changing menu. Donated cucumbers and apples at the end of Summer turned into a refreshing sorbet, pumpkins, limes and chillies into a Thai pumpkin soup, and a range of produce pickled or fermented to include in focaccias. Dietaries are covered with gluten-free cookies, brownie, and cake options, vegan soups and at least three of the frozen options with more to come.
Coffee and drinks are made by Peggy and supplied by Proud Mary Coffee Roasters, Ratio Cocoa Roasters, Hello Matcha, and Caravan Chai. Kombucha is also available year round in a unique form of green tea and herbal ingredients such as lemon verbena, fig leaf, and hibiscus.
