Now in its 25th year, Nillumbik Hills Open Cellars opens the doors of small, family-run wineries on the quiet western side of the Yarra Valley. Visitors can explore ten cellar doors at their own pace, meet the people behind the wines and discover a different side of the valley.

At Wedgetail Estate, the weekend also marks a year since the new owners opened the cellar door. Four new estate-grown wines make their debut, alongside a rare chance to taste museum-release wines pulled straight from the cellar.

On Saturday, Langan's will be firing up the wood oven for fresh pizza, with Stephen McCullough playing through the afternoon. Sunday is all about Ramblers American barbecue, cooked low and slow over the pit and finished with glazes and vinegars made from Wedgetail wines, with Speckle and Cheque on the soundtrack. Local creatives will be on site all weekend, making it easy to linger over a glass and browse their work.

Far from the crowds, this is a chance to visit one of the Yarra Valley's smallest wineries, where the person pouring the glass is the one who grew the fruit and made what's in it. A weekend to taste new releases, uncover older bottles from the cellar, and enjoy good food, live music and local craft, with the vineyard as the backdrop.
