Taste of Australia With Hayden Quinn

See & Do Recipes

Season 6, episode 6 of Channel 10's Taste of Australia with Hayden Quinn was proudly filmed in our very own backyard, showcasing the epic scenery and incredible tastes of the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.

Taste of Australia enjoyed exploring our region with former Masterchef contestant and TV food personality Hayden Quinn showcasing the unique personalities shaping the food scene in Australia while experiencing the characters, produce and creative forces contributing to our food culture.

Hayden joined Mick at Buxton Trout and Salmon Farm to throw their lines in the water and enjoy the natural surroundings as they waited for what's always a guaranteed catch.

Family-owned and being Australia's oldest commercial trout farm, the wholesale and tourism farm is a great day out. It is a family-friendly way to enjoy the region and catch some rainbow trout from clean, fresh water that runs straight from Steavenson Falls.

Trout have been bred here for over 60 years, and their experience and dedication to quality are obvious. No antibiotic chemicals or growth hormones are used. They hatch the fish there and
sell them ready for you to eat!

If it's your first time casting a line, you'll have a great day out as you're guaranteed to catch one that's perfect for the plate. While you're there, you can also try their famous Mountain Ash smoked trout from their on-site smokehouse or their speciality - ethically hand-milked caviar.

As featured on Masterchef, the traditional hot-smoked Mountain-Ash Smoked Trout is regarded by many as the best in Australia. Try it for yourself!

Hayden also ventured through the Yarra Valley's famous wine region with its rolling hills and picturesque vineyard views as far as the eye can see. They visited De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate to meet with Steve and Kate, a father-daughter duo looking after the property's winemaking.

The iconic winery set the scene for them to discuss the wines made in our region, particularly those made on-site, and chat with the winemakers about their processes and what makes wines from our region so unique (and spectacular).

Hayden set up on top of the vineyard to cook a spicy pork dish with matched wine straight from the surrounding vineyard.

Fresh and delicious, Hayden cooked up a tasty apple juice turmeric pork cutlets with apple and witlof salad. The recipe for this can be found here.

Visitors can enjoy tasting at De Bortoli's cellar door daily, with tastings available from 10 am to 5 pm daily.

While you're there, the on-site Locale restaurant offers warm Italian hospitality, award-winning De Bortoli wines and an incredible menu.
