The charming village of The Basin is nestled in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, just 31km east of Melbourne CBD.
Early European settlers settled in the basin in the 1860’s as it was the perfect environment for market gardens. Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller named the area The Basin in early 1860 during his visit to the Dandenong Ranges because it was located in a ‘basin’ surrounded by hills.
Today, the town is a beautiful tourist spot with a small number of shops and restaurants amidst a village atmosphere.
