Gruyere is a premium wine growing area just behind Coldstream on the Maroondah Highway and Wandin on the Warburton Highway. It has strong farming and agricultural roots with a variety of products such as apples, pears, citrus and cattle.

It's the type of place where it’s easy to find yourself patting a neighbouring farm animal before setting off on a walk along Stringybark Creek.

It's also home to some of the most iconic wines of the Yarra Valley, some of which can be found on the Maddens Lane Winery Trail.

Yarra Yering, one of the best, oldest and most beautiful Yarra Valley vineyards, was established in 1969 at the foot of the Warramate Hills by Doctor Bailey Carrodus. Over the past 40 years, it’s has earned an international reputation as a consistent producer of fine wines.

This is evidenced by American Wine and Spirit Magazine naming it one of the top 100 wineries in the world.

Squitchy Lane Vineyard produces premium quality wines from 16 acres of vines and tastings are done from a rustic cellar door offering a truly authentic wine tasting experience.

Soumah is a progressive vineyard offering a range of interesting varieties from three distinct regions in Europe & Northern Italy. Their unique Savarro from northern Italy has attracted many accolades.

Visiting this region is a must for wine lovers and you can easily spend a day (or two) cellar door sipping.
